You are right, Melissa! That is some of the best parenting advice ever. I used to tell my parenting class students that their goal was to work themselves out of a job. Letting go is a part of that process.

How lovely it is to ‘see’ now the results of letting go, and what a wondrous thing.

It reminds me of a line in the movie ‘Finding Nemo’ ( I am paraphrasing as my own lil’ one is no longer lil’ and it has been some time since seeing the film)

Nemo’s dad is trapped in a whales mouth panicking , feeling he let his son down. He tells Dory that he promised Nemo that he would never let anything happen to him. Dory replies how odd that is – because if you never let anything happen to him, then NOTHING will ever happen to him. How sad for (Nemo)…..

Some of the best parenting advise ever….

Melissa - I agree. Even after I lost everything, I still felt strong and powerful. Fearless!

Lisa - The IKEA instruction manual reference made me think of a TV show I enjoyed watching recently. I think you watched it too - off to buy some scrap metal and a blow torch! ;-)

And don't you find that life would be so very boring if everyone lived by an instruction manual. One of my favorite sayings is "coloring outside the lines" and I think it is essential to living.

It is nice to see what an awareness we all share around the inspiring people who made our lives what they are and can be today!

What a beautiful and inspiring piece Laurie. Indeed we are who we are due to those who came before - in addition to my personal ancestors, I am grateful for the brave and strong women in history who paved the way for us to enjoy our endeavors as we know them today. The sacrifices and brutality endured to ensure the freedoms and equalities we pursue even now are always a part of my collective consciousness.

It is important to remember those who helped make us who we are. My paternal grandparents and my mom all had a tremendous influence in what I do and how I do it today!

Thanks Melissa. I enjoyed using this technique and plan to do so again whenever needed. The issue is resolving itself nicely so I guess "Future Laurie" was a great help after all!

I LOVE the concept of tapping into 'future self' as readily as we tend to tap into our 'past self'. And it may serve us better if we visit future self more often than past self. With past self we long for bygone days or dwell on bad memories. No matter, it does not serve us well if we do not intend to 'pivot' those thoughts into the direction of a successful future.
Thanks for the insight!
